Cartoon Philosophy 101

Course Description: A introduction to the history of cartoon characters that will include the makes, origin, history, characteristics, where are they now, and interesting facts. This course will allow you to analyze in more depth where the cartoon characters come from as well as allow you to identify the meaning behind. This includes cartoon characters from the 1900s to present day. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Organization: The basic requirements of this course are attending class, reading the assigned chapters, tests and quizzes, a project, participation, and most important TO HAVE FUN WHILE LEARNING.

Course Objectives:
  1. To gain an understanding in the history of cartoon characters.
  2. Be able to identify the cartoon characters from the past to present day.
  3. To analyze all that is needed to know about the cartoon characters.
  4. To have a positive outlook on cartoon characters throughout the years.
  5. To have fun while learning.

Required Material:
  1. Textbook: The Life of a Cartoon by Giggle Banks
  2. A cartoon movie or show

Class Requirements: In this course there will be homework assignments, three test, one final and 10 quizzes. Your lowest test grade excluding the final and your two lowest quiz grades will be dropped. You will be required to do one project based on a cartoon character. (Further information will be told later during the course) Your final score breakdown as follows:

Extra Credit: There will be one opportunity to gain extra credit this semester. You will have to make your own cartoon character and present it to the class. You are required to write a one page, 12 pt. font, and double spaced paper about your cartoon and a five minute presentation to the class. This is worth 3 points added to you final average.

Missed/Late Work Policy: Late work will not be accepted. If you miss an assignment, test, or quiz it will just be your dropped grade. No matter what the circumstance this policy stands unless it was a dying emergency and what you missed will affect your grade greatly.
